How Common are Drowsy Driving Accidents? (and How to Prevent Them)

Every year, nearly 30,000 people are killed in motor vehicle accidents. In the state of Texas alone, the cost of vehicle accidents can reach well over $4 million per year. In a survey taken in 2010, 4.2 percent of 147,076 respondents reported falling asleep behind the wheel at least once in the last 30 days. While not all drowsy driving incidents lead to an accident, drowsy driving can impair your driving abilities much like alcohol.

3 categories of distraction that could cause accidents

Distractions affect most people multiple times throughout the day. You may find yourself sitting at your desk contemplating what you will have for lunch or how you will spend your weekend when you should be working on a report. Perhaps you sneak a quick peek (or several) at your phone or social media throughout the day to check in with friends or family. Whatever the distraction, letting your mind wander can cause setbacks.

Not only can distractions impact how much work you complete or how well you attend to a task, they could also put you and others in danger. In particular, distracted driving can easily lead to car accidents that may result in injuries.

What to do after a wrongful death

We understand how difficult it is to face the loss of a loved one. When this happens, the last thing one has in mind is to take legal action. However, it is important that in cases where another's negligence caused the death,, the family of the deceased consults with a lawyer as soon as possible since there is a limited period to file a wrongful death claim.

Train accidents and the law

A train accident is classified as an accident that occurs on a train, subway, or any other vehicle intended to operate in a rail system. The fact that trains are limited to running on tracks allows them to be some of the most direct means of transportation, but also some of the most complex. Unlike vehicles on wheels, such as a cars or motorcycles, a train cannot rotate or change the direction in which it travels. However, a train can change the speed at which it travels, as well as move forward or backward.

Effects of Politics on Personal Injury Claims

When you are injured in an accident because of someone else's negligence, the process can be a little confusing. This process involves finding and hiring an attorney, understanding the laws governing personal injury, filing a complaint with the other party's insurance company (or lawsuit if necessary), gathering evidence, attempting to settle, and then if necessary, going to trial.

Motorcycle accidents and Personal Injury Claim

Motorcycles present certain hazards that put their occupants at greater risk of damage and injury in any accident. Motorcycles have the same right to be on the road as cars, and if a driver's negligence causes a motorcycle accident, the guilty driver is liable for the injuries that his actions caused.

Whiplash is no laughing matter

You probably know the old joke that, if someone hits your vehicle from behind, get out, grab your neck and claim you have whiplash. The problem is that whiplash is no laughing matter. Anything that potentially causes serious damage to your neck requires a trip to your doctor or an emergency room.

Many instances of whiplash occur in motor vehicle accidents. During accidents, your head may violently jerk back and forth abruptly. This could result in damage to the nerves, tendons, vertebrae and ligaments in your neck, along with the muscles and discs.

Judge trials vs. Jury trials for personal injury cases.

When any civil lawsuit is filed and once all of the evidence is presented, an independent party needs to make a fair and impartial decision on the matter.  This independent party is typically either a judge or a jury.
